I was dx'd in Oct 2001. I'm 32 and I use a wheeled walker around the house and a scooter outside. Been on the diet since February 2009. I've had some marginal improvements (less numbness in my legs, a ton of energy, etc) but I didn't feel like I was getting the results I was hoping for, so I cut out all carbs (gf grains and starchy vegetables) and fruit. What am I struggling with the most? Fruit. Namely: bananas. I think I have sugar issues - in fact, I know I do because when I eat a banana, my legs get cold. My husband isn't doing the diet with me - and strangely enough, all of the other stuff in the pantry doesn't tempt me. But I can't fault him for wanting to eat fresh fruit. And when it's in the house, it's all I can think about - so pathetic. I know.
I'm doing really good, except for the stupid bananas!
Part of me just wants to ride it out until I get the results from my ALCAT test - a little costly, but an extremely comprehensive allergy test. But that's so slack. I've gone this far, what's one more thing?
I just need some motivation - part of me justifies it with, "Well, whatever I eat will be out of my system soon enough... and the symptoms will wear off". But I could use that logic to scarf down a cheeseburger and a milkshake. Why is that one thing my breaking point? Gah! I'm so frustrated. And disappointed in myself.
One more thing - how do you keep from not being hungry an hour after you eat when all you eat is protein, veggies and nuts?

Bananas are on the ok list.
Bananas are on the ok list. But it's not the bananas that are making my legs cold - it's the sugar. Anything with sugar does that. Even though it says I can have fruit I'm still going to cut out the sugar. And the cold feeling seems to be my standard reaction to foods I shouldn't have. For example, it says I can have cow's milk in limited amounts so I tried a little cream cheese and I immediately had that cold feeling. So I think I'm still going to stay away from dairy. Now I'm on deck for a consultation with a doc at Alcat to go over my results... so we'll see. I'm still frustrated and I feel like I'm hitting a wall. Boo.
I am curious to know what
I am curious to know what your test results said about bananas! Can you eat bananas or any other fruit?
I got my ALCAT results
I got my ALCAT results today: I was on track with cutting gluten and some legumes - but I can have dairy and soy. It's crazy - the list is 200 foods long. Plus I added testing for erythritol, agave, stevia and xylitol (all good except erythritol). It really boggles the mind.
