I am new to the diet

Hi,
I am new to the diet. I was diagnosed around three years ago. I started out with terrible headaches and my vision in my left eye was blurred. I have been in denial all this time. I just ignored the (MS) fact. About a year ago I started to exercise and felt great that took care of the three hour naps in the middle of the day. I had been praying for a healing from God. Recently, I was in Barnes and Noble and came across the MS Book. I thought this was the answer i was looking for. I started the diet March 4, 2010 and so far i have lost 9lbs. I was 141.This past weekend i started to feel exhausted. I was feeling worse - I even stayed home from work. I also got a sore throat and feel like i have the flu. I guess that is good right? I was talking to someone and they told me this might be a withdraw from everything i have taken out of my diet. I have just taken coffee and regular sugar away completely. I only eat meat, fish, fruit, salads and veggies, rice and millet ceareal. I find that it's hard for me to detect what i'm allergic to. I plan to go and get that ELISA test done soon. As soon as i took Gluten and Wheat out the first week i felt my left toes. But that is all so far. My left foot is numb and my left eye (pupil) gets bigger than the other eye . That has been like that for three years. Those symptoms were what made me go to see the doctor. If anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate your imput on anything i have said here. It's nice to know i can learn from others that have gone through this same thing. Thanks, Lola

Hi Lola, Welcome to the diet

Hi Lola,
Welcome to the diet and congratulations on the weight loss. Sarah has given you good advice and encouragement, to which I want to add my encouragement. Sarah's question if you notice tingling, bloating, headaches when you eat a certain food is a good one. The tingling is my first immediate reaction to a trigger food. The bloating is sometimes more subtle for me to notice or recognize. The feeling in my toes was the amazing thing I noticed when I began the diet 18 mos. ago. No pain, numbness, or tingling was amazing. I agree that figuring out your individual triggers takes a while and can be difficult, but hang in there. Be persistent and be a detective. As far as fruits and their sugar, I find that I don't have to eliminate all fruit, but have to limit it to maybe 3 servings of fruit a day. Each one of us is different, so you may have to eliminate all at first, and then after some time, gradually add one at a time. As to being a detective, sometimes in combination dishes you have to decipher if only one particular food or ingredient is the culprit. Spices and herbs can be triggers, which are difficult to determine. To help you along, some of the more common that I and others have noticed are onion, garlic, chili pepper, paprika, and cinnamon. If you are bothered by legumes, it's worth noting that chili powder and paprika are from red pepper pods which are legumes and nightshade foods and, therefore, triggers for some of us. I can't eat salsa which has both tomatoes and peppers both night- shade products so I have to detect. I can eat tomatoes alone with no problem, but I can't tolerate peppers in any form, so that's where being a detective comes in. Other nightshade foods can be triggers; such as, eggplant and potatoes. Regarding sugar, any form of sucrose may be a problem. Even the natural Stevia has a small amount of sucrose, so I have to limit its use in my coffee or it triggers a reaction. Also, be sure to ingest healthy oils, and rotate, rotate, rotate! I don't want to overwhelm you. Keep up the good work and you'll see progress. Best to you and take care!

Hi Sarah, Thanks for getting

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sure you are correct. I'm just very fustrated. The good things is that i have lost weight. That is the bright side. Now that i think about it i have had headaches but i don't remember what causes them. My stomache hurt after eating wheat pasta. So i took out wheat. I will have the test later this week (food). Hopefully, that will narrow it down. I think that my biggest trigger is sugar. I'm afraid that i will have to cut out fresh fruits. I hope not. One of my biggest concerns is remembering. I need to stick to taking the B12 . I found that after a month of taking the B12 my thoughts and memory were better. Do you know of anything that can better my memory?Like i said the tingling is still there. The only big improvements are my weight and feeling in my toes. I just want some other kind of improvements. Thanks, Lola

Hi Lola, Welcome to the

Hi Lola,
Welcome to the recovery diet!!! I have been on the diet for a couple of years now, and it definately helps. I think you are experiencing the feeling worse before you get better stage. Caffeine stimulates the immune system, so your body is adjusting to not having its daily fix, along with the sugar!!!
Every one struggles at first with identifying triggers, but you will believe me. Have you noticed any tingling after eating a certain food, or bloating, headaches etc? These are all signs you are reacting to something.
I have to admit to being a lapsed dieter, but when i first started and was totally disciplined i came on in leaps and bounds, so hang on in there!!!
It has been very quiet on here lately, largely due to an influx of spam, which im sure has put people off posting, because anyone asking a genuine question was getting replies offering a variety of weird and wonderful things totally diet unrelated!!!
Hang on in there, and any questions fire away, i visit here everyday, and do my best to reply to any newcomers to keep Ann and Judi`s wonderful work going strong, without this book i would have been lost.
Kind regards Sarah
