Questions on Efficacy of Diet

hello everyone,

my girlfriend was just diagnosed with ms a few days ago and we are basically in shock. she is 20 years old and we think it may have been caused by the gardasil vaccine shot. right now, she has no lesions in her brain or spine, but her lumbar puncture came back positive. she is to see a specialist soon. we have bought this book and we are going to do the diet together because of the stories we have learned about it changing people's lives. right now, she has constant pain in her eyes due to optic neuritis, often has pains in her legs, sometimes has urinary incontinence problems, and currently has pains in her back.

we would like to know if anyone has optic neuritis and have noticed an improvement of it through this diet?

also, if the ms is in fact caused by the gardasil, then will this diet actually help with her symptoms in general?

thank you.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear

Hello, I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend and the pain that she is having. Please know that you and she are not alone in this! The shock of the first diagnosis--or possible diagnosis--days are very difficult. I found that I went through sadness, denial, anger, rebellion, grieving, and anything in between. It's very natural (although not at all fun). I also found this book and its advice early on. I don't know anything about the Gardasil shot or whether or not it can cause problems. If the shot was involved, it seems more likely to me that it may have alerted her immune system which could have then brought on some already building symptoms, but this is just my GUESS, as I am certainly no doctor. From everything that I have learned, it takes a while in the making of MS. Many of us can look back over the years and see how those little things that we just thought were odd now all add up. But, all of that aside, I want to offer you some good sound hope! This diet and the book have been powerful tools for me! I am about 7 months into the diet. I do the diet as outlined in the book, but I have also had to eliminate and tailor it further to meet my own sensitivities. I have found it to be very effective in helping with symptoms. I have also found that it is becoming easier to know when a food that I've recently eaten has caused a symptom to worsen or reappear. I am also seeing changes in my MRIs. What I am saying is definitely do it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! It is not easy, but it gets much easier as you learn it and adjust to it. The best way to see if it helps is to try it and try it consistently. I feel that she will notice changes which begins to build hope again and makes a big difference in your outlook! This forum is also very helpful. I've found it to be very valuable. I hope your girlfriend will too. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend.

BY THE WAY, in more direct answer to your vision question, I do have blurred vision when I "cheat" on the diet. I DO NOT have blurred vision when I do not cheat. It's a very noticeable difference. I am hoping that your girlfriend will notice some relief in this area with eliminating the foods recommended. Try it and be consistent to allow time for a change to heal and take place. Okay, I'll finish typing now! "justme"
